Franchesca has become a member of Pony Club.
This was a big move for her as it requires
River to agree to venture off of our property alone
without her pasture pal.
This was back in the spring
at our first meeting.
Her first time ever, leaving the driveway alone.
She really should have gotten a mild seditive
in retrospect.
The trainer needed to help us handle her,
leading her into an indoor barn with windows, mirrors, wash racks and indoor stalls.
Where she tacked her up. For us.
All of this was very unnerving for our rescued horse,
who we thought was progressing so well in the last year.
As we followed her into the indoor arena,
I envisioned myself as only a spectator, someone with a push button
show horse who boards here.
I heard myself "tsk tsk" and wonder at the audacity
of someone bringing this wild, unregistered, green broke marvel
into such a refined barn.
River was shown around several times
and then it was time to pull her big girl panties on.
I was unsure if she had brought them with.
We were completely exhausted in many ways
by the time she loaded back into the trailer.
It is humbling to have others waiting for your horse
to load so they can go home
because of the "no horse left behind" policy.
to load so they can go home
because of the "no horse left behind" policy.
The entire venture was humbling.
Franchesca decided that River was just not ready
for the rigors of Pony Club.
I wondered if I was.
