Spring Training

*These are 2 of 3 of my favorite girls in the world*
And 1 of my all time favorite pics.

I'm not sure if you all have a difficult time
in the spring, reacquainting your horses with "real life".
We do. Every spring.
Meaning, you don't walk all over me,
I'm the lead mare, yes you can canter without dying,
you must stand for the farrier
(and kicking out at him while standing still does NOT count).

At times, it seems as though the beautiful creatures
assume an infantile attitude of:
feed me, make me happy, ask nothing of me.

Arrogance abounds when they are approached
for the first time, grooming bag in hand, WITHOUT FOOD,
as if.

Throughout the mild winter I encouraged the girls to work the horses
so as to prep them a bit for the real life that comes with warmer weather.
When the weather changed in March,
I insisted that they at least groom and tack them up several times per week,
feeling good about getting ahead of the game
considering some of their goals for this summer.

Franchesca earnestly declared that she could bridle River
in 5 minutes flat.

With that, I offered $20, to which my husband.
raised the bar and said 3 minutes, no more.

This gorgeous animal of mine is a lot of things.
Cooperative and calm are not appropriate adjectives.

Money is sometimes the universal language and let me tell you,
those girls were quicker out the door than when the UPS truck pulls in.
The story is very simple.
She bridled her up in less than 2 minutes.

THAT was some fast cash.
Probability was never my strength.

We made some good headway that week,
even loading up and visiting friends.
It was great to get an early start on the season.

And spend time with old friends.

*Mothers-do not doubt
the determination of your daughters*
